Nienna (Bringer of understanding)

Forgiveness, learning, empathy, hope, leaving of old

Even though Nienna lives alone, she is rarely lonely. Many visit her to listen to her, She herself also visits Mandos, where she speaks to many, who call to her. With those she then sits in circle and patiently speaks with them. Thanks to that they can share and learn understanding and grow in wisdom.

Nienna never created anything of her own and yet her creating is of big importance. Her task and gladness is in transformation. Not the changing of things as they are, but in changing the way we see and understand. In truth she is working as a crystal, which, when the light goes through it, changes it. Those, who meet her, speak and she talks with them and so we must admit that she helps, but in the way that she returns to them their own altered energy, they accept it and so willingly use her power. She cannot help anyone who doesn’t want her help.

The cry offers purification, because the tears contains her will and magic. They are her fondling at every each face, on which they are and so they are attempt to comfort. Because of that the cry is noble gift, which we can use freely and often we do so without willing choice, because it had already became part of us and our very ability. And yet it is still ritual, which summons the energy of Nienna.

Even though Nienna is never cheery, there would be much less of cheerfulness in the world without her. She carries the hope and reminds everyone, who seeks her out, that there is always hope. Without her help it would be far harder to purify our mind to see the light again and be proud. Someone of course can do this purification alone, but everyone is welcomed to see Nienna and learn from her not just, how in hard times help oneself, but the others as well, how to get rid of sadness and old bonds, which are only burden and accept the passing of what have to leave our lives.

She also teaches accepting. Everything that happened didn’t just happen but also led to many consequences, many of them even good. It is necessary to accept the past and learn from it, because its value is not just in shaping the state of presence, but also in teaching, to allow us to have better future. To not always do the same mistakes, to allow us to grow. It is needed to learn to understand this causality for becoming better and allowing us to grow as beings into bigger wisdom.

Tolkiens description

Nienna is sister of Námo and Irmo. (These three are called Feanturi, the lords (and lady) of spirits) She lives alone, her home is at the west part of Valinor and the windows of her home are turned into the void. When the great song was being song, Nienna soon lost joy and her singing turned into sad and lamenting, full of pity for everything, that suffer. And the same empathy she gives to Arda itself. Nienna visits Mandos, where souls call to her, she changes the pain from events that happened into wisdom, she teaches how to believe in hope.
